The Organization History
The Antimony Oxide Industry Association (AOIA) was formed in 1978 to
meet the requirements of the antimony oxide industry in the USA. At
that time the highest priority was the response to the USA EPA
concern for carcinogen studies. In 1983 the AOIA commissioned an
inhalation study with rats. The study was peer reviewed and
indicated that cancerous tumours were not formed in the lungs of
rats. Over the years the AOIA has submitted information and comments
to the US government on many issues.
In 2000, the IAOIA (International Antimony Oxide Industry
Association) was formed by European and American (AOIA) Antimony
Trioxide producers and the Japanese Mining Industry Association (JMIA)
to develop scientific programme and stakeholder communications on
antimony trioxide.
In 2001, the US-based Antimony Oxide Industry Association (AOIA)
ceased to exist and only the International association, IAOIA
continued.
In 2004, the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals &
Chemicals importers & Exporters (CCCMC) joined the IAOIA membership.
A category for associate members has been added to meet the demand
for other stakeholders to become involved. These are stakeholders
such as producers of related products, distributors and consumers
that choose to actively participate in topics related to antimony
trioxide.
With the major producers of antimony oxide worldwide united, IAOIA
has a strong voice to defend its product.
